I had to order a copy of this book as soon as I heard about it; the author is a longtime friend from back in my software-developer days!
Later: An entertaining linked-stories tale of a demon-turned-priest, who's doing his best to make life easier for his neighbors in his newly-adopted community. This is in a world rife with superheroes and villains, cults and eldritch abominations, and yes, even some purely mundane folk (though even those may have some unexpected talents!). It's a gleeful mashup of many fantasy/horror/superhero tropes - inspired, as the author's preface reveals, by a simple slip of the tongue when describing a proposed fantasy role-playing setting.
The characters include Shamsiel, aka Father Samuel Gregory, the titular demon priest; Lee, who narrates many of the stories, a street person with mental issues who is helpful to Father Gregory in acquiring the desanctified church where he establishes his home base, and is hired as sexton; Bishop Whitcomb, an ally; and many more.
The stories feature up-close-and-personal confrontations as well as larger-scale battles, with lots of riffs on RPG-type game mechanics - and with some touching relationships developing over time, as Father Gregory's growing found-family of allies get to know him and each other - and themselves. Lots of action, some humor, great affection for the genres!
