I have long since started to care much more what is served on Brunetti family kitchen table that the actual investigation. Leon writes about Venice with a sharp look but with warmth towards the sinking city.

It was nice to read again about Venice and Commissario Brunetti and his investigations. It feels like being on holiday. There is not much blood in these stories and it is good.
I have visited Venice many times, sometimes with my husband, sometimes with my younger daughter and some times with both of them. Hubby and I even went to see the Questore where Brunetti is working.
This book is fine for the Ukraina Challenge as it is very much about friendship.

I took the book from the meet-up in Riihimäki on Sunday after checking that Delenna hasn't read this Brunetti yet :) I've been to Italy once and after what we went through there I have no plans ever returning. The Italian police was okay though, unlike the Finnish Embassy..

This was one of the most "calm" Brunetti-stories I've read. The first death happens way after half way thru the book - and is not a murder. The second one is. Yet this is mostly about Brunetti looking into an old friend and his plans which not all approve.
Leon is very consistent in calling a cellphone "telefonino". In this book it seems a little out of place in two instances - especially when Griffoni calls an _Englishman_ to ask his wifes "telefonino number" and there's no hint of language barriers/explanation why he understands this bit of Italian.
