Fingal O'Reilly, Irish Doctor

One of a stack of books that I want to read and then share with others.
Another installment and another chance to spend some time in Ballybucklebo. I really love this series. I was pleased with the addition of a woman doctor and the honesty regarding how she was not accepted by some men or women in the village at first and had to win their trust. I also enjoyed the way the story in 1960s County Down was intervowen with the story of Fingal's first days as a doctor in Dublin in the 1930s. I am sure it must be like that in practice -- you see a patient come in with a specific complaint and it reminds me you of other times you have seen that before. It flowed very nicely and I enjoyed the parts about the development of sulpha drugs and antibiotics and even the inclusion of parts of the greater world in the 1930s with the rise of Hitler and Franco. I was pleased with developments in Kinky's love life and pleased with Kitty in the 1930s for standing up for herself when her romance with Fingal was rocky. The one thing that was a bit irritating was the incorporation of all of the historical tidbits in their exactitude -- the years of studies and developments of medical techniques. I know that is part of being a professional and wanting to cite sources and the basic info is helpful to the story, but sometimes I just glazed over at the details. Still, this was one of my favorite installments for showing the heart of the Big Fellah and how true it has been throughout his life.
