The characters are compelling and the story is at times heart-breaking and at others sweet. I really sympathised with Henry and Keiko, the loneliness, the fear, the love and the bigotry that they had to deal with largely alone and felt a rollercoaster of emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

How exciting to get an extra rabck in with a wishlist tag parcel. I have read this BUT it was a VERY long time ago so I am quite happy to re-read it as I've forgotten enough about the story to make it seem like new. Thank you!

I have spent the Christmas hols reading and this was one of the books I really enjoyed. Although I'd read it before I'd forgotten parts of the story. I think what made it so good for me was the realistic elements where some issues were left unresolved and not everyone was reconciled. This made parts of the story even more poignant. Also, gold star for Mrs Beatty. Thanks for sending me this one. I hope to get it travelling again soon.
