Yes, I know they are for YA's - well mostly young boys - but then boys never really grow up, and these are the the lightest and easiest of reads:

(18/11/21) *contains spoilers* So our young spy, Bond, I mean Rider, Alex Rider goes on his second mission. The pattern is set for the series; a baddie with a fiendish plot (not always world domination, but mostly is in this case), a cruel and freakish sidekick(s), Alex put into an almost impossibly dangerous situation, and winning through with guile, luck, and gadgets. In this case the plot involves human cloning and a mad South African scientist in an Alpine stronghold … Alex posing as the wayward son of a British businessman sent for correction to Dr. Grief’s academy. All good fun, and no-one dies, except that there are some deaths, which spoils the lightness a bit. In an Afterword Horowitz says this was the first book of the series, but he thought it too sci-fi (meaning far-fetched) to launch Alex Rider into the world. I don’t think he should have worried, what with the bonkers plot in Stormbreaker as well, we expect escapism not realism. Next!

ps. I have just watched Alex Rider on Amazon Prime, which had Point Blanc as the first season (as above), and then skipped to book 4 for season 2 ... go figure!
