Angela Chen isn't a gifted writer, and this book often lacks clarity and direction. However, it compensates for those shortcomings with its bold exploration of thought-provoking concepts. Chen's passionate belief in social equality for asexuals shines through. The book isn't perfect, but it's interesting and parts of it are inspiring.
Really, as an asexual, I'm happy to see any book published on the topic. It's still an orientation that most people haven't heard of. Increasing awareness of asexuality will help improve understanding of us among allosexuals, and more importantly, will help asexuals recognize what they are and feel less alone. (It was Julia Sondra Decker's book, The Invisible Orientation, that taught me about the existence of asexuality when I was in my forties... prior to that I had felt like there was something wrong with me, and that I was the only one.)
