This is the first Rankin book I've read. I've heard lots about the writer and with the series being based in Edinburgh thought I'd give it a go. It's the first Rebus book. It's a good story but very dated (written and set in 1985) with lots of smoking, drinking and sexism. At least the smoking and drinking is less permitted in the police force while on duty now....
