This is what I want to do. I want to go home. I want you to come with me.
'I want to go from here . . .'
Finger on Cape Reinga.
'. . . to here.'
Finger at the bottom of Stewart Island, right at the bottom of the map.
It's been years since Alex was in New Zealand, and years since he spent any one-on-one time with his twin sister, Amy. When they lose their parents in a shock accident it seems like the perfect time to reconnect as siblings. To reconnect with this country they call 'home'.
As they journey the length of State Highway One, they will scratch at wounds that have never healed - and Alex will be forced to reckon with what coming home really means.

A wishlist tag for Keeta1 - I hope you enjoy it more than I did. The writing is good in places but I was expecting something a little different based on what was advertised. Enjoy :D

Thank you tigergirlnz for this wishlist tag which arrived today :)
Do hope I enjoy it more than you did when I get there!
Thank you also for all the other goodies (a hitchhiker/birthday gift book, labels, very apt bookmark and favourite flavoured chocolate), which were included. All much appreciated :)

A great read. I enjoyed pretty much everything about it. From highly emotional, confused Alex to crazy twin Amy and all the glimpses of NZ during their epic trip down the country.

Thank you so much for sending this book. The timing of winning this annual sweepstake ( run by tigergirlnz )coincided with a few ‘life curveballs” which I am still in the middle of.

This is one of the few books I have read over the past 6 months. I enjoyed the inner angst of the two main characters, and being able to visualise the landscape with my local knowledge about the geography of SH1. The story highlighted how small NZ is when everyone seems to know the names of two road crash victims….although having typed that out perhaps this is an emphasis of the narrator’s mindset and view of his family.

I got confused by the date changes, as there isn’t much to differentiate between 2012 and 2015.

A worthy winner of the book scholarship the author obtained.
