I wanted to read this book before watching the movie starring Kevin Costner and Diane Lane.
It's the story of a grandmother who has lost her son and the mother of her grandson has remarried in haste to a despicable ne'er do well and has taken her only grandson with them. She is determined to get her grandson back at all costs and the costs become horrific when dealing with backwoods degenerates. The child's other grandmother rules over her tribe and they live a no rules existence with strong ties to the towns corrupt good old boy system of savage entitlement.
Although not as good as Montana 1948, I enjoyed it and will look for more of Larry Watson's novels.
