I do enjoy these "Quick Reads" but this was a bit of a mish-mash flitting between a menacing account of gang life & being a bit of a fairytale. It starts off quite grim, with Will fleeing from a gang in fear of his life. Taking sanctuary in an abandoned house the story takes on a fairytale-like quality with the house providing for Will's needs. That feeling was also enhanced by the fact that the supposedly ugly Will meets the beautiful Padma- echoes of "Beauty & the Beast" eh? Does it...like so many traditional stories...end happily ever after? Well, I'll just say that the cheesy ending made me both smile & roll my eyes!
