This is Britain as you've never seen it.
This is Britain as it has never been told.
From Newcastle to Cornwall, from the birth of the twentieth century to the teens of the twenty-first, Girl Woman Other follows a cast of twelve characters on their personal journeys through this country and the last hundred years. They're each looking for something - a shared past, an unexpected future, a place to call home, somewhere to fit in, a lover, a missed mother, a lost father, even just a touch of hope.

Another wish-list book for me in my "Christmas" bag, thank you xtrdnry for fulfilling so many of my wishes!
An excellent vignette of a number of characters, either related by family or friendship. All were black gay women with the exception of gay Rudolph, being the sperm donor of Yazz.
Not entirely obvious to me that they were all black.
The story was tied together by the creation of a black theatrical piece.
A little off-putting in the beginning with the lack of punctuation but I soon saw beyond that and became involved in the storyline.

Caught at Redgum Cafe.
An ambitious novel, skillfully executed. It is a sweeping history of the black British experience. The attention to detail quickly becomes evident.
