A good book. McCarthy is a meticulous, thorough writer who never misses a beat -- at times she gets a little TOO thorough, but few enough to let it slide. About a group of Vassar grads in the 1930s, The Group is about what it's like to be a woman, or at least an upper-class-well-educated-popular woman.
