CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I sent this book as a gift to be passed on to a wonderful childhood friend. She loves books like I do and I think we have similar tastes (last time we spent the day together we spent most of it in Cambridge bookshops).
We were discussing a curated book service that Heffers in Cambridge is doing, where they pick a book just for you as a surprise once per month and we thought the idea was wonderful. Unfortunately, the service was quite expensive.
So instead I thought I can do that for her on my own - it has recently been her birthday - and I decided to pick her a book a month (ideally sourced from second hand book shops, charity shops and book exchanges), register them here and send them on. I hope she'll like my selection. The key is variety :)

This is a super strange book about a girl who is strangely fixated on death. I found it a strange read because it managed to be obsessive and apathetic at the same time. It is quite funny though so all in all nota bad read.

While this book goes into quite serious and depressing themes, it manages to do so with much humour. It made me gasp with laughter, so I hope this is the right choice for you, too! Here are some of my favourite quotes, so that you, dear future reader, can get a feel for it:

"Losing someone to the Lord makes it sound like God steals people."

"I start to picture a world where Jesus had been killed using a different murder device. I picture little ceramic guillotine figurines. I imagine miniature nooses hung above children's beds. Electric chair necklaces and earrings." (I almost choked on that one)

"He's got a problem. Can we all just admit that he has a drinking issue?"
"Gilda, stop it! It's Christmas!"
"Yes, Merry Christmas, Dad; I think your son is an alcoholic."
(Best one, because she was right all the way through)
