I got this softcover from Better World Books. I've enjoyed many collections by noted crime historian Goodman, and this one, with its vaguely-Christmas theme (the cases include murders committed within a few days or weeks of Christmas), sounded intriguing.

Some of these were familiar to me already, including Conan Doyle's comments on and intervention in the case of Oscar Slater and Harold Furniss' account of the Ratcliffe Highway murders, the brutal blunt-instrument murders of two different families in London in 1811 (written up at greater length more recently in The Maul and the Pear Tree), while others were new to me. They range from the very-grisly (a man carted his dismembered victim through the streets of Liverpool in 1913) to the bluntly mundane, with some interesting looks at crime and justice over time.
