Where the Crawdads Sing

I have had this book on my wishlist for a year, so when it was offered up on Darebin Hard Rubbish Heroes page, I claimed it.
I think this might be a very desirable book for our Evil Santa!
I read it in a very short space of time and could hardly put it down. What a beautiful love story. The story of Kya who lived alone in the North Carolina coastal marshes after all her family abandoned her due to domestic violence. She learnt to fend for herself from a young age and eventually allowed herself to be befriended by Tate who taught her to read and became her first innocent love.
I loved the way Kya’s knowledge of bird and insect life helped her to understand how people behaved. Intrigue was added when she was arrested and charged for the murder of Chase, a man who wooed her and then abandoned her.
I was going to give this book 9* because I thought the poetry was a bit of a weak link, but when I sobbed my way through the last few pages and saw the poetry relevance, it became a 10* read.
