Travels with Charley in Search of America
3 journalers for this copy...
I LOVE THIS BOOK. I've read it several times and it never gets old. Someday, I think I'll do as Steinbeck did and travel the US with an RV and my dogs Sadie and Shadow!!
Sending to Lady-Mondegreen as she was so kind to send me Bryson's NOTES FROM A SMALL ISLAND which I enjoyed very much.
Enjoy.

Thanks so much - received as a suprise rabck from hleann! I really like the sound of this book and look forward to reading it so I may get a taste of the colours, speech, sights, sounds and smells of America.
I really enjoyed this book. I read it a while back but some difficult life events took over and it didn't get journalled. I do remember it being a lovely read though and I recommend it.
Promised to swanofkennet of whom I will be requesting a return as now I come to part with it I have decided I would like to read it again sometime, so will keep it available for others if wanted.

This is an absolutely wonderful book. I was going to say 'lovely' but there's some unlovely stuff in here, especially when Steinbeck visits the Deep South. It's a terrific snapshot of a big and diverse country seen through the eyes of somebody who is at once of it and apart from it.
I've always loved John Steinbeck's novels, from which he shines as the kind of big, gentle, intelligent man that I wish a lot more men were like. He's compassionate and he's known melancholy, and I'm sure that if I had met him I would have fallen in love with him! The real star, though, is Charley the poodle...
I've held on to this way too long, and it's off to Lady Mondegreen ASAP.

Received from Swanofkennet with thanks. It is now going to be loaned by me to a non-bookcrossing friend who expressed a desire to read it, after which I shall read it again myself.
