I found this hardcover in this Little Free Library in Merrimack NH while dropping off some books of my own, and nabbed it for another release copy.
I first read this almost 20 years ago {gulp}; my thoughts from then: Interesting period [1880's collegiate New Haven] novel about two men of near-fatal sensitivities (emotional and/or physical) who find each other. The book's lyrical in places, tantalizing in others - and a bit gruesome as well, with one character suffering from consumption and another from assorted gastric and digestive upsets (which doesn't sound very romantic, I'll admit - but somehow our heroes triumph over the bedpans as well as prejudice, hatred, envy, and fear). This is a book that I first picked up because of the cover (which is taken from one of Baron von Gloeden's erotic photos of Sicilian youth, circa 1900), and while I did enjoy the novel (although I should warn prospective readers that it teases and tantalizes for most of its length, 'til I found myself shouting "Let them get together already!"), I think I might not like it quite as well without the cover photo... So am I judging a book by its cover, or a cover by its book?

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Guidelines for safely visiting and stocking Little Free Libraries during the COVID-19 pandemic, from the LFL site here.
I spotted an unexpected Little Free Library while en route to a different one, so of course I had to visit this one too. (It's outside the Twiggs Gallery at Cornerstone Design, which I plan to visit now that I know it's there!) Left this book; hope someone enjoys it!
