~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
" The searing first novel from the celebrated author of Beloved, which immerses us in the tragic, torn lives of a poor black family in post-Depression 1940s Ohio.
Unlovely and unloved, Pecola prays each night for blue eyes like those of her privileged white schoolfellows. At once intimate and expansive, unsparing in its truth-telling, The Bluest Eye shows how the past savagely defines the present."
The Bluest Eye is a book that tries to touch on many important issues and that especially at the era it was published, it should have made quite an impact. But Toni Morrison her self admits on the foreword and the afterword of the story that in reality the book went largely unnoticed when first published and that even she herself, years later, she wasn't very satisfied with the writing.
The book can be read on a fast pace up to an extend, but the narration style makes it feel fragmental and disjointed. It didn't move me much despite the hard themes and my own expectations. It offers lots of food for thought, but the literary part left me cold somehow...
