This handsome hardcover came from a boxed set that I got from my sister in New York, after she'd done some decluttering of her bookshelves. I've read all the stories before and was glad of another release copy of Lovecraft's work.

Of the stories here, my favorites include:

"The Colour Out of Space" which features some very unusual - and increasingly nightmarish - happenings at a remote New England farm. (This one's inspired several film adaptations, including 1965's "Die, Monster, Die" and a 2019 version directed by Richard Stanley.)

"The Cats of Ulthar," in which those who do Bad Things to Cats get their comeuppance in a big way. (Lovecraft was fond of cats.)

"Cool Air" has an inventor suffering a crisis during a New York heat-spell, with... unfortunate results.

"Pickman's Model", set in Boston and which simply revels in local landmarks - one could do a tour from Beacon Hill to the North End based on the descriptions in the story alone. The truth about the models for painter Pickman's eerie works comes as a delightful shock.
