I picked this up for 80p in a charity shop while I was on holiday in Scotland, simply because I had run out of things to read - and am I glad I did!
It's quite hard to describe - it's a who-dunnit, a politcal novel, an attack on big business, politics, the media - and also full of love for old movies.
It was written in 1994, and contains many references to George Bush Senior and his decision to attack Iraq - who says history doesn't repeat itself?
It was one of those book that I found hard to put down, as I was desperate to discover the outcome and the fate of all the - mostly unlikable - characters.
And while I think the final section was a bit of a let-down, it did not spoil my enjoyment of this weird, disturbing and very funny book.

I really enjoyed this author's'The Rotters' Club' and am interested to read more of his. He seems to have lived/been educated very near me 20 years later!

I found this book quite heavy going in parts but worth persevering with. He is a very accomplished author and the book covers so much. It also made me laugh out loud several times.
It reminded me of Ben Elton's 'Stark' in parts with its chilling exposure of how the world is really run. As for the hospital description, I burned with impotent anger at the situation there. Sadly it is still only too true.
Thank you, arturogrande for allowing me the opportunity to read this book, it will be on its way to Virginia tomorrow.
I especially enjoyed the film sections
