A Long Night in Paris
2 journalers for this copy...
Purchased this from the library book sale in Leominster, MA. Will give it a try, or just send it on in the Armchair Travels to France book box.
The books roars out of the starting blocks, with an abduction at DeGaulle airport and international intrigue hinted at. The author knows a lot about politics, intelligence, policing and intrigue. He has written for Israel's major paper, and he writes this like a journalist, with lots of information and a narrative that hurtles forward. I hardly put it down. His goal is that you learn a lot more about contemporary Israel and its role in international politics. Also, that you learn a lot more about France and its intelligence and detective services. And you certainly do.
Two of his major characters are women, and they are reasonably well written and characterized. Each one had a scene that I found ridiculous. (At least one). I was going to say which one, but now I think I'll just throw it open for later readers to tell me whether any of the women's scenes (or other scenes) seemed unbelievable.
So, if you are in the mood to race around Paris virtually to solve a who dun it that is never obvious, though slightly far-fetched, this is a very good choice.
Planning to put this book in the Armchair travels to France book box, for a little testosterone to balance out the shopping and chocolate-tasting young women having their Parisian adventures.
If you aren't familiar with Bookcrossing, take a few minutes to check out this very cool site. Bookcrossers LOVE books, and more than anything, they love to read books and then set them free for other people to find and enjoy. I would love it if you would leave a journal entry -- you can say where you found the book or how you liked it when you read it. Then, when you are ready, pass it along for someone else to enjoy! Thanks and happy reading!
