This book originally came into my house from a charity shop in my neighbouring city, Kitchener. I am registering it now as I hope to use it for an Around-the-World reading challenge in which I am participating. I hope to use it to cross one of the Pacific island nations off of my list.

There is a lot packed into the 444 page body of this text! There's a lot of history, a lot of travel, a lot of characters... A lot of diverse and interesting theories, perspectives, and experiences, all related to one intriguing historical figure.

For the most part, I liked the author and his style of writing (although I was less fond of his frequent travel companion). I am not rushing out to buy everything he's ever written or anything like that, but seeing his name on the cover of something I was thinking about reading might be enough to sway me into purchasing it.

This book was really not what I expected when I picked it up, but it differed from my expectations in a good way. I feel that it was a worthwhile read.

I'm not sure what is next for this book, so I'm going to set its status as available and see what happens. I might end up hanging onto it for a while.
