When Emira is apprehended at a supermarket for 'kidnapping' the white child she's actually babysitting, it sets off an explosive chain of events. Her employer Alix, a feminist blogger with the best of intentions, resolves to make things right.
But Emira herself is aimless, broke and wary of Alix's desire to help. When a surprising connection emerges between the two women, it sends them on a crash course that will upend everything they think they know - about themselves, each other, and the messy dynamics of privilege.
------------
Bought from my library's sale trolley today. I read the eBook after seeing reviews of it and was curious. It is clever in that I initially felt sorry for Alixa, but then as the situation develops (not as dramatically as The Dinner) my attitude towards her was quite different at the conclusion. I wasn't that sure of Emira's character too but felt that her reaction to what happens was appropriate.

I looked at the cover and was expecting something different but it surprised me as it turned out to be much deeper than it looked. I was slow to get into it and then I could not put it down. Ended up reading it too quickly but what a journey it took! Thank you so much for sending it to me, ukcanaus. I will be sending it travelling soon.
I have passed this on to a bookclub friend to enjoy!
