No wonder this book was such a best seller. It has many emotions in it's pages. There is humor, sorrow, hatred, and finally love. It is a book for women, about the special bonds between them. A good read.

It was a pretty easy and quick read, with dysfunctional family relationship stuff, and a redemptive theme running throughout, tied in with a lot of symbolism with Mary (mother of Jesus), a sort of MOTHER figure for all of us, especially the motherless, and even the fatherless. Some people may think it a bit strange (it can SEEM like there is a Marian cult in it) but I found it intriguing and full of symbolism, rather than full of strangeness. I am sure if I was still in college (was an English major) I could write a paper about all of the symbolic elements of the book! It's a pretty good read, especially for women. It is really a good old story of healing, through a community of others in the most unlikely way and with a most unlikely people. I liked it.
