Suppressed passion, honor, jealousy, and tribal loyalties are the themes of this play. Set in a rundown Italian-American waterfront community in 1950s Brooklyn, Eddie Carbone, a docker, is over-protective of his niece Catherine. He and his wife Beatrice have brought up their orphaned niece as their own daughter. Bea's two cousins from Sicily, illegal immigrants, arrive and challenge Eddie's paternal feelings. Throw in a few knife fights and some inappropriate kissing and you have a play that was not successful in its Broadway run but was successful in London and Paris. This copy was published in 1966 (seventh printing).

This book was left in the Little Free Library. It was released for the Never Judge a Book by its Cover release challenge. (picture of bridge on cover)
