I love travelling and tend to go by coach, so this book really interested me.

I really enjoyed this book. I have been "slow travelling" for some time, not necessarily for the same reason as the author. I don't particularly enjoy flying, however have no problem with it. I just started travelling on the coaches when I was 18 and discovered cheap European coach travel a few years ago. I enjoy coach travel anyway, you always get a seat and coach drivers never go on strike. Many people over the years have been surprised that I have chosen this mode of travel, however it has resulted in me having a much better idea of the geography of the areas I am travelling through and the cultures than if I were to fly. Not to mention the fantastic scenery that I have often seen from the coach windows.
However I know I could do better. I still fly around the M25 to see relatives and end up seeing very little of the countryside around it. This book has reminded me of a trip where I decided not to spend time in a service station but to go and see a sight instead. I went to a butterfly farm in Stratford upon Avon on the way, which resulted in me being late however was absolutely fantastic and on the way back I went to find "Wigan Pier" and discovered that there are more than one type of Pier and Wigan is not by the sea! I haven't done this since, however I intend to do so again.
A truly inspiring and challenging book.

How exciting, it has arrived! Really looking forward to reading this. Thank you for sending and coach travel in Australia is a serious way of understanding just how big the continent is.

Fabulous read and all the more enjoyable for the raft of books he talks about which I've now added to my wish list. Three men on a float being one of his own titles.

This will wing it's way to Poodlesister at some moment in the future when the box is nearer 2 kilos! As Roger Deakin is on her radar and I will be sending Notes from Walnut Tree Farm, she will enjoy the references in this book.

I really enjoyed many aspects of the books but at times it all got a little too philosophical. I enjoyed hearing about his travels and his experience of them. Like Yogiberri I have read some of the books and authors he talks about and now want to read some of the others.
I prefer train and bus travel to flying. My favourite train journey is Kings Cross to Edinburgh on LNER and back. Nice scenery and lots of reading time.

This is for kirjakko, but I'm going to have a sneaky read before I pass it on in September.

Passing this on to kirjakko. Happy reading!
Greetings from sunny Scotland! I don't know yet how the book describes idle travelling, but has bookfrogster really read it? She was kind enough to take me around Edinburgh's Little Free Libraries all the way from Holyrood to the Botanical Gardens in a six-hour-hike which was far from idle! I can't get my back straightened today. Last time I was here it took me three days to complete the same journey...
