Jukes' memoir of her first season as a beekeeper is also so much more than that. Fascinating details into her research on bees and the history of beekeepers learning about them, combined with the effect that the bees have on the way Jukes' responds to events in her own life. It's a really unusual book, Jukes is so open about her own life and interactions and the kindness and generosity of her friends. I found reading about the bees really calming and I love the parallels between her learnings about bees and the other things going on. Beautifully written and a wonderful book.

We just got back home from our short trip to Lausanne and this book was waiting in the mailbox. Thank you very much for sending it to Switzerland!

UPDATE Loved this little book! Interesting how looking after living beings has helped Helen realize so many things about her own life. It got me thinking about having a beehive in my garden as well at some point.

I guess this book never made it from my mental wishlist to my bookcrossing wishlist. Thanks for passing this read on to me nonetheless.
