"In peaceful southern Sweden, Louise Åkerblom, an estate agent, pillar of the Methodist church, wife and mother, disappears. There is no explanation and no motive. Inspector Kurt Wallander and his team are called in to investigate.

As Inspector Wallander is introduced to this missing persons case, he has a gut feeling that the victim will never be found alive, but he has no conception of how far he will have to go in search of the killer. In South Africa, meanwhile, Nelson Mandela has made his long walk to freedom. Faced with a world in which terrorism knows no frontiers, Wallander must prevent a hideous crime that means to dam the tide of history." (back cover)

Kurt Wallander #3.
Vintage 2003. Paperback, 440 p. The Swedish original "Den vita lejoninnan" 1993, translated by Laurie Thompson.

Henning Mankell is one of my favourite crime novelists. I have read this book in Finnish many years ago like most of the other Wallander novels, so I let this copy go and find new readers.

Sent to me as the winner of the 'colour in the title' sweepstake. What a lovely surprise to receive this through the post today with a beautiful postcard all the way from Finland. I swear I can smell the snowy Finnish weather on the pages of the book!
I've not read any Henning Mankell before which I think is one of the beauties of being part of the Bookcrossing community-finding and reading books that wouldn't normally be on your radar. I've quite a pile of books to read from this sweepstake (and yet still can't resist the temptation to hunt for more!) so it might be a while before I get to reading this. Thanks to Paulanni for posting this to me.
