Mitchell and Markby Mystery #1
"When Meredith Mitchell agreed to stay with her actress cousin Eve in the run-up to Eve's daughter's wedding she anticipated a degree of drama. But she hardly expected it to include murder, blackmail and unrequited love. Or to involve a certain Chief Inspector Markby, a middle-aged divorcee with an emotional history as unfortunate as her own." (back cover)
Headline paperback 1991, 281 pages.

This was the first book by Ann Granger for me, and I liked it. Meredith Mitchell is a British consul in Yugoslavia (yes, the first printing was in 1991 when there still existed a country which carried that name!), but has returned to England to attend her cousin's daughter's wedding. A happy time and a peaceful country village are anything but happy and peaceful, when a young artist is discovered murdered in the vicinity of the old rectory, currently Meredith's cousin's home.
Meredith Mitchell gets involved in the case to the dismay of the Inspector Markby. Both of them are surprised at things they discover about the death of the young man and about people staying at the rectory, and in the village. I was surprised by the culprit - couldn't see it coming. A good detective story - I hope to read the other books in the series.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
To the winner of the Tea and Mystery sweepstakes. Congratulations and enjoy!
Thank you so much, this sounds like I will enjoy the book, and I will enjoy trying the wide variety of teas!
And I love the illustration on the card you sent~ makes me giggle😂
As far as I know, I have no Finnish roots; ancestors I knew of are from Ireland, Scotland, and UK. Máire is an Irish spelling. I like finding out that minus the accent it’s also a female name in Finland.
Thanks again🙂
