The Turner House
3 journalers for this copy...
Francis and Viola had 13 children who all grew up in what became to be known as the Turner House in what has become a destitute part of Detroit. Now, Francis is long gone, Viola is nearing her time, and the house is worth only 1/10 of what is still owed after Viola took out a second mortgage. Each of the children, now grown with their own lives and problems, has to deal with their memories of the house as they decide what to be done.
Sent in a box of books to Calif-BookLover. Enjoy, my friend!
The family house, ramshackle as it has become, is one major theme of this book. But of equal interest is the fact that the eldest of the thirteen children is troubled by a "haint" or ghost that appears from time to time. He tries going to a therapist, using sleeping pills, and dealing with the fact that most family members insist that the haint ain't. (Sorry, couldn't resist).
