Jane Austen
“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”
This is one of the most famous sentences (the first paragraph) in Pride and Prejudice.
Mrs Bennet -such an annoying character- has only one obsessoin in lilfe, to create good marriages, or even any marriage at all, for her five daughters. There is a reason why-none of them will be able to get their hands on any type of inheritance, and like all the educated, well-mannered ladies of their time, any type of work was considered a humiliation. Housekeepers, nannies, teachers-- it was all badly-regarded.
I am not a fan of Jane Austen, so I hope this novel finds a home at somebody who can appreciate it more.

Found this book in a very nice pub - Somers Town Coffee House, which I heartily recommend. I have read P and P before. It’s a wonderful book. Mrs Bennet is often vilified, but really she is desperate to ensure her daughters are taken care of.
