Cork O’Connor is twelve years old in the summer of 1963. His father Liam, is the sheriff a small town In Minnesota where they live. Cork is looking forward to the summer, hanging out with his friends, until one day the come across a body in the woods. It is a man they know.
While Liam is investigating whether the death is a murder or suicide, Cork decides to find some answers on his own. While clues begin to unfurl Cork and Liam must decide to either follow their hearts which is telling them what is right, or follow their heads which is telling them what is true.
This book starts off a bit slowly, but picks up midway. At times it seems to be a bit repetitious in the description of the plight of the Native Americans living in Minnesota.
