Review: Give Unto Others (Commissario Brunetti #31) by Donna Leon. Again, I am back to the latest in one of my favorite mystery series, set in Venice. Very little mention of food this time, which is strange, but even a bit more strange while being quite normal is the obvious presence of the pandemic in the story. We are seeing more and more of this, as it is our recent global upheaval. Anyway, I did indeed enjoy this installment, with all our favorite characters, and a more convoluted satisfying mystery than one often encounters in this series. Guido Brunetti is asked by a woman whose mother knew his mother back when they were not too well off, and because he recalls the kindness of that friendship, he agrees off the books to look into the very vague complaint Elisabetta makes that her son-in-law has been somewhat aggressive to his wife, her daughter. But as the story evolves, it becomes more complicated in its emotional baggage, involving Elisabetta's husband who has retired and set up a non-profit NGO in Belize with the help of his son-in-law in the beginning, involving also a retired Admiral who is fading into dementia, and a lot of jealousy. I admire that Donna Leon has now 31 books in her series, and she is still going strong!
