I got this softcover manga at Barnes and Noble, after enjoying Volume One. The series mixes humor with science - indeed, there are segments from "the encyclopedia of real animals" which include photos of the creatures "developed" in the stories. The design team consists of characters with quirks of their own - the guy who designed the horse and now tries to give every new creature a horse-esque style (sometimes this works: seahorses, for example; more often it does not, for reasons which the engineer who builds the prototypes is happy to point out); the tiny girl who loves cute things (but for whom "cute" means "poisonous and/or cannibalistic"); the big bearded guy who really does go for things that most of us would see as cute and cuddly - and more.

This volume opens with boss-angel Ueda having been summoned to Hell, to the consternation of the entire team. But no, she hasn't been demoted; she pops back in with a new character, the rather edgily-dressed Yokota, who's been newly assigned to Hell himself and is seeking the design team's help... with a new theme park? He provides the gang with detailed specs for a three-headed guardian beast, and the entire team is staggered to have such a clear, well-thought-out design request, in contrast to the vague and riddle-like ones they get from God {wry grin}.

Later, non-binary team member Venus gets an assignment of their own, for a "bird that looks like a precious stone"; I was not surprised when this turned out to be a hummingbird, but it took an entertaining multi-disciplinary approach to achieve it.

The "bird that produces precious stones" was another matter, though also great fun to see. It involved the creation of an ostrich by way of a velociraptor-like being, and also revealed a relationship between the acerbic Mr. Mercury and the technical Ms. Mars - though not the relationship everyone else suspects. He gives her a huge diamond which she receives with joy - seems he was correct in assuming she wanted "something with a high refractive index to make a lens"!

Neptune gets to create "an animal that's bad at swimming", and comes up with a sea otter in a series of increasingly adorable scenes that have everybody - included the bearded giant - squeeing.

And there are more creatures, from bears to hormone-modifying parasites. And another cliffhanger: at the end of the volume our gang has been invited to a party in Hell to celebrate the opening of the features they helped design, and who should arrive at the door but - God Himself?

[There's a TV Tropes page on the series, with some entertaining tidbits. And the anime adaptation is quite charming, with a delightfully peppy opening theme song!]
