It is good we have individuals in this country who will stand up for innocent and disabled people who get involved with criminal justice; people who are poor, under-educated, mentally ill, mentally retarded, drug or alcohol addicted, children, wrongly accused. There are people who get caught in the criminal justice system who do not have the wherewithal to pay for lawyers or the sophistication to handle themselves in interrogation.
Bryan Stevenson is a lawyer who stands up for those who cannot stand up for themselves in a system heavily weighted against them. He specializes in death row cases and people who were sentenced as children to life imprisonment. He has helped a lot of people, which is a huge understatement. He has been a Godsend to many. There have to be people who pursue and punish the guilty, but equally necessary are those who protect the weak and have compassion for all. I gave the book a rating of 9 stars but I give the man himself and his work a 10+
