In Breakfast of Champions, one of Kurt Vonnegut s most beloved characters, the aging writer Kilgore Trout, finds to his horror that a Midwest car dealer is taking his fiction as truth. What follows is murderously funny satire, as Vonnegut looks at war, sex, racism, success, politics, and pollution in America and reminds us how to see the truth.

Arrived along with a number of travelling companions. Thanks very much for the RABCK book-a-neer. Not sure whether it will be my type of book or not,
but hey . . . it’s on the 1001 so I’ll give it a go.
Sometimes I get surprises!!

Journal Entry 6 by wingcrimson-tidewing at Balingup, Western Australia Australia on Thursday, May 5, 2022

Well, not really my type of book either, but it was easy to read and some parts of it I enjoyed quite a lot. Others not so much, or not at all. The story itself is totally and crazily off the wall and rather delightfully meandering, but the social commentary on the sins and shortcomings of the US is insightful and cutting. And not so much out of date either. The glaring exception of course is the frequent use of the N word, which I found disturbing.

Now reserved for a new reader.

Released 10 mos ago (6/16/2023 UTC) at 2023 - Falkirk, Scotland , BookCrossing Convention -- Controlled Releases

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Unfortunately I gave up at around chapter 8.
I enjoy Vonnegut, but I think I need to be in a very particular mood for this particular contribution, which readying myself for my first BC convention/ 2.5 week holiday in the UK was not it! Perhaps will make another attempt in the future...
In the meantime, will hopefully be handing this off to fellow attendee jax987654321 as it's on her wishlist. If, for some reason, she no longer needs, it will be released to the book buffet 🥰

Journal Entry 10 by wingjax987654321wing at Falkirk, Scotland United Kingdom on Saturday, June 17, 2023
Given to me at the book crossing convention at Falkirk as it is on my wishlist
