I'm a Big Richard Osman Fan, being addicted to both Pointless and his House of Games, so I've been wanting to read his debut novel since first hearing that he was writing one.

I was delighted to receive a copy from my younger daughter tree-hugger for Mothering Sunday/Mothers Day and couldn't wait to get started . . .

So, being prevented by lockdown from seeing my daughters on our special day, having to make do with a couple of phone calls, that's how I spent yesterday, reading one of the books I was given by one daughter, while eating some fancy biscuits provided by the other :-)

I wasn't disappointed. This is a real page-turner, I couldn't put it down, started it in the morning and finished it before bedtime. Wonderful! I was very taken with all the characters and had a smile on my face throughout. A funny bonus is that it's written so much in RO's voice, that I could hear him reading it to me in my head - a strange sensation!

Now reserved for tree-hugger to enjoy as well :-)

I decided to reread this before passing it to tree-hugger during our garden visit planned for the Easter weekend, all being well . . .

And I thoroughly enjoyed it all over again, although I'm still not convinced that the money adds up . . .

Well, that was a charming way to spend an Easter weekend! Richard Osman has packed this novel full of so many amusing little turns of phrase, it's just delightful, I smiled all the way through. I warmed to the core cast very much, and indeed the place he depicted so clearly, so I'll definitely be back for book two.

Although I've driven past several times and seen that there were books in this old village phone box, this afternoon was the first time I'd stopped - but I don't suppose it'll be the last . . .

Nearly two million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 over thirteen million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!

Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't have to cost anything, although the site always appreciates donations towards running costs, and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!
