Wouahou... I loved it :) the passage about what the book deals with got on my nerve though... and I can't explain why, the last sentence is just amazing!
But the whole novel is just wonderfully written, you could fill a 'book of quotes' only with this one!

Franchement, very witty comme on dit!

Bookray!

Well well, what is it to be said ... I knew the story from the very good movie that has been done out of the tbook in the the 1950's or so. One must admit that the style is very good, the sentences wonderfully written. I got a hard time getting really inside it though, and got bored quite a lot in the middle of the book, when O. Wilde begins to list us all he knows about pearls and embroideries... The end of the book, as I thought it had to be, is simply excellent, and the idea of the book itself is geniously good. One last comment, is that though this is a novel, and the author clearly express his view about what has to happen of Dorian Gray once his life is lived, the themes developped in the book are very immoral, even a century later. I can easily understand how this book has been a scandal in his time, and find myself bad reading it too...

I'll have it sent to e-marmotte as soon as possible.

Je dirais juste à propos de Dorian Gray : I don't have to like him to find him fascinating...

Merci Crevure.

Finally, 4 years after registering for this ring, I finished it! Not easy to begin with to get in the story, the style, and the English used. But waow, what genius! The book is filled with pearls, absolutely fascinating.

I would just say about Dorian Gray : I don't have to like him to find him fascinating...

I loved this book! I don't really care for long descriptions, but the idea and plot of the book are wonderful. I also liked the way the book hints at the sins of Dorian Gray, but never really says outright what they are. A fascinating read! :)

Thank you for the books! It's a shame I haven't read this yet but there is so many books to read!

I finally read this! I've seen the new movie of this and of course I new the story before that. It was a joy to read English like this and I'm pretty sure I've never read anything quite like this. There was only one chapter I disliked, it was really boring. Sometimes I had to read aloud 'cause the sentences sounded so beautiful. =)
