In rural Somerset in the middle of a blizzard, the unthinkable happens: a school is under siege.

Pupils and teachers barricade themselves into classrooms, the library, the theatre. The headmaster lies wounded in the library, unable to help his trapped students and staff. Outside, a police psychiatrist must identify the gunmen, while parents gather desperate for news.

In three intense hours, all must find the courage to stand up to evil and save the people they love.

My thoughts...

Wow, this was a really interesting premise and very well executed. The entire school is under siege, although we don't know who from or why for quite some time. The headmaster knew who it was but as he was shot, he was too ill and unable to say anything to fellow teachers or pupils. The book is entirely set around three hours of one morning and it's fast paced for that reason. At times I thought I might have an idea of what was going to happen but I was wrong-footed at least three times. It's difficult to say much without spoilers, so I'll keep this brief and just say that love conquers all and wins over hate. The love that Rafi has for his little brother, Basi, is particularly striking. I wouldn't be surprised if this was made into a TV series or film. Recommended read.
