An "accidental duplicate" of a different sort!
Having read this book recently, I have been able to call up vague memories of reading this book in my childhood, but at the time of purchase (indeed, for several chapters in) I was completely unaware that I had ever even SEEN this book before! It was only when the main character Matt was considering how to teach Attean how to read that I had a brief flash of memory ("write arm, arm, arm, all over paper") and I flipped ahead a few pages to find out that, sure enough, that brief memory happened in the story. Other than that, and the scene where Matt found Attean's dog in a steel trap (a scene that happened very differently in my memory than in the book), I still have no actual memory of having read this book before.... yet those are enough to tell me that I have.
