Beyond the Rice Fields

The twin narratives of a slave and his master's daughter reveal the upheavals of Madagascar's past as it confronted Christianity and modernity. This was written in French and is the first novel from Madagascar to be translated into English.

This was well written and translated but I got a bit lost in the last part of the book. I didn't really understand what was happening or why - probably mainly a disconnect between me and assumed history / knowledge of the country and culture.
