The Woman Who Died a Lot
2 journalers for this copy...
I finished reading this, went online to see what the next title is named, and found that... it hasn't been written! This book, seventh in the series, was published in 2012, and according to Fforde's website, he will start writing the next book in the series, Dark Reading Matter, in 2022. I am crestfallen.
The Thursday Next series is one of my all time favorite, it's brilliant, funny, wacky, satiric, nonsensical and original. It's not easy explaining the plot in a few lines, but I'll try: In a parallel universe, Thursday Next lives with her pet dodo and has the ability to read herself into the bookworld, and in the first book, she ends up changing the ending of Jane Eyre (to the one we in this world know of) and has to stand trial for that. She later joins Jurisfiction, the police force in the bookworld.
In this volume, Thursday's brother Joffy is a minister for the Global Standard Deity (GSD), who unifies all religions resulting in stronger collective bargaining power with God. This angers His Mightiness, who starts sending columns of cleansing fire down to incinerate cities.
Meanwhile, Thursday is assigned to be the head of Wessex Library Service, which has SpecOps in combat fatigues, with camouflage pattern of book spines for blending into library spaces, to perform dawn raids to retrieve overdue books and other library law enforcement.
I hope this perks your interest to seek out this series. I like his Nursery Crimes series too.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
As this is the book late in a series, I'm glad to find someone who has this on a wishlist to forward to rather than wild release.
Iwillrejoice, not sure how far you are with the Thursday Next series, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
