Of All the Gin Joints

I got this hardcover at a local Savers thrift shop, for another release copy. It's subtitled "Stumbling through Hollywood history," and it deals with many anecdotes about the various soused celebrities - some amusing, some inevitably tragic. From legendary tippler John Barrymore to late starter Robert Benchley to Richard Burton (who was said to be able to down three bottles of vodka a day), the book features biographies, quips and quotes, and an amazing capacity for booze.
There are nods to films about booze, too, including a look at the marvelous, harrowing classic "The Lost Weekend". And I was amused to find a recipe for the "Alaskan Polar Bear Heater," the drink concocted by the Nutty Professor's evil twin in the 1963 film starring Jerry Lewis. (This is not a drink that anyone could recommend, but it was fun seeing it in recipe form.)

Came home from work to find this gem as part of the first donation to my Little Free Library, which we officially opened yesterday. Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy browsing the library as much as I enjoyed building it. -Erin
