Taken from the Little Free Library on Keahi Street in Manoa with thanks!

This lovely story is illustrated by Kevin Hawkes and based on the experiences of author Kathryn Lasky's father as a young boy.

During the 1918 influenza pandemic, ten-year-old Marven's parents send him to a lumber camp far away from Duluth to try to keep him safe. Five miles from the Bemidji train station, Marven finds himself surrounded by French Canadian lumberjacks..and food that definitely isn't kosher!

I'll count this as my Minnesota read (4/51) for the 2021 version of NancyNova's US States reading challenge.
