Thank you for the unexpected bag of books! This one looks intriguing. I expect your description of "wacky, but fun" will be accurate!

This was an entertaining but fairly forgettable romp, best read with one's tongue firmly in-cheek. None of the characters develop from their initial stock roles or have depth beyond snarky surface, but collide entertainingly nonetheless. This book is divided sharply in half, with one adventure set around the gladiatorial fights of the Bloody Deckers against an invading alien ship, and the second involving humanity's unwillingness to comply with a galactic stay-at-home order, building their own ship based on the aliens' and setting out despite the illegality of leaving the planet. I wondered if these were initially intended to be two separate books, combined for some mysterious publishing reason.

I'm claiming this one from the Science Fiction bookbox; looks nicely goofy!

Later: "Goofy" pretty much covers it, with some bits that made me laugh out loud, others that were more of a mild chuckle, and a fair amount of "oh, come ON!" {wry grin}.
