I must confess that I purchased this book for it’s title so was pleasantly surprised to discover it was based in north eastern Victoria in the late 60’s and was also an enjoyable read.
The story of an ordinary Australian farmer and the unlikely love which develops between him and Hungarian immigrant Hannah. He is a down to earth man of few words, she is older, Jewish and quite exotic but has a very sad past have being interned in Auschwitz and losing all her family, including her precious little boy.
A little unbelievable towards the end, specially the murder of his neighbours (but it reminded me very much of the plot of another Victorian book about a couple who were murdered in Wedderburn).
