Understanding China Through Comics Vol 1
1 journaler for this copy...
I have to say that while the drawing is somewhat crude, the author offers quite an interesting take at history. While I have studied some Chinese history in school, and this book serves as refresher of sorts, it also offers some new perspective. It mentions that as many as 2/3 of Chinese population was wiped out during the change of dynasties - makes me wonder how huge the population may be if there weren't so many dynasties.
The author also mentioned that Chinese do not have a creator god. I have often found this an interesting comparison, of Asian cultures where morality is guided by Confucius or Buddhist teachings, which is more fluid than religious dogma, as there's no god who dictates whether something is sinful or forbidden.
There's also a dose of humor to keep this entertaining, although the carousel of emperors spins so far that I can't recall much detail.
