I got this softcover at Barnes and Noble. It's about high school sophomore Darius, who lives in Oregon and is of Iranian/Anglo descent. He also suffers from clinical depression, and in general has not been having an easy time of it. When the family goes to Iran to visit Darius' dying grandfather, Darius runs into some culture clashes and is feeling even worse about himself - until he meets Sohrab, a neighbor about his age, who has problems of his own. Their friendship marks a change for Darius, and while it is tested, by the time Darius and his family head home it seems that things may be improving for him.

The author's comments at the end describe his own depression and his desire to show how it can affect people in different ways - and can affect those that its victims come in contact with as well.
