Surviving New England

The people of the country where I was born were never numerous. It is estimated that their language had fewer than one thousand speakers, divided into maybe five distinct dialects across the region. They were worse than decimated by colonisation and their native language was almost entirely lost. The author, with the community, is meticulously documenting the history of his people since colonisation including making every possible effort to reconstruct and revive their very language. This work is profound and sobering, yet not bitter at all.
