I got this softcover from Better World Books. The cover makes it look like a ghost story, and perhaps in some ways it is: it's about a man who, upon the death of his wife, goes on a journey to try and learn more about her first husband and how that relationship affected the woman he fell in love with. His meeting with the ex-husband has a dramatic followup when the man turns up dead and the police suspect the protagonist - but that's not the focus of the story. The man meets his late wife's daughter from her first marriage, a young woman whose relationship with her parents raise issues of their own, but who seems happy with her young son despite the breakup with his father. Lots of family-dynamic stuff here, with shifting perspectives as more personal history comes out - and with the main character's ongoing beliefs that his late wife is haunting him. Her final appearance (from his perspective) is a bit disturbing, and the book in general leaves a lot unsaid...
